Orvin
I'm so glad you all made it. Please, ladies, please take a seat. I am Orvin. It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance.
Overview
Orvin is an older gnome who runs a small repair shop in the canton of Heron. The shop is real. So is the repair work. The shop is also a Resistance safehouse — Orvin's specialty is building living quarters with materials that suppress detectable magical signatures, allowing magic-touched fugitives to shelter without giving themselves away to Inquisitorial scrying.
He is an old friend of Jorath Hroth'Dar from the Glade.
Appearance
Small frame, even for a gnome. A few grey hairs. Moves slowly. A worn shop apron. Eyes that have seen a lot and are still glad to see people.
When he opened the door for the party in Session 01, he extended his hand to authenticate — and Jorath, in his enthusiasm, met it with too much grip. Orvin winced and laughed. Careful there. That's all right.
Personality
Warm. Patient. Quiet. The kind of host who has soup already on the table when guests arrive because he has been expecting them, and the kind of host who does not ask what happened on the road. He invites people to eat. He steps aside while they do. He listens.
He is not naive. He does not say things he cannot afford to have repeated. When EMBR — accidentally — mentioned the man in the stockade, Orvin's smile did not change, but it stilled. He noticed.
He has been doing this work long enough to know what a hard night looks like on the faces of strangers, and he gives such strangers food and warmth and the polite courtesy of not knowing too much.
Role in Session 01
- Greeted the party at the door of his repair shop.
- Welcomed Maret and Sable into the back room. Soup on the table.
- Asked the party — gently, without pressing — whether they had seen anything unusual on the way in.
- Was preparing to walk them through the safehouse arrangements when the Inquisition carriages arrived outside.
What He Knows
- The safehouse trade. Materials that suppress magic. Routes to other safehouses. Names of other operators.
- Local Heron streets and the patrol patterns.
- Jorath, personally — from somewhere in the Glade, before the campaign.
- That the party's reputation precedes them in the Resistance enough that he was willing to take Maret and Sable without an in-person interview.
What He Does Not Know
- That an Inquisition canton quarantine is descending on his canton as he serves soup.
- What he is going to do about it.
Relationships
- Jorath Hroth'Dar — Old friend from the Glade. Greeted with familiarity.
- The Resistance — Safehouse operator. Long-term, trusted.
- Maret and Sable — Newly his charges as of session end.
Status
In his repair shop, Heron, with the party and Maret and Sable, as the canton is sealed.
