Father Dunmore

Father Dunmore — himself missing two fingers from an old "misunderstanding" with the Inquisition — took Valdren in.

Overview

Father Dunmore is the priest who took in Valdren Zau'tar after the Inquisition disappeared the rest of his family. He raised Valdren in the church courtyard from age twelve to adulthood — training him in swordwork, watching him forge himself into a paladin of vengeance, and letting him.

Appearance

An older priest. Missing two fingers on one hand from an unspecified earlier "misunderstanding" with the Inquisition. The kind of priest who keeps his sermons short and his eyes long.

What He Knows

• That Valdren's oath is built on grief, and grief can be a holy thing if it is allowed to do its work without being lied to.
• That the local Inquisitors remember him, and tolerate him only because he is too small to bother with.
• That what was done to Valdren's family was not, by his own theology, a thing the gods would have allowed if the gods were paying attention.
