The Garrison
By some stroke of luck — whether it is in the middle of patrol swaps or just again because the guards don't want to stand out in the rain — you guys move out of there freely.
Overview
The Garrison is the standing military of the Regime. They guard the three walls, man the canton gates, and repel the kaiju when the kaiju test the outermost fortifications. They are a working soldiery — paid, fed, housed in barracks, drilled in the morning and on watch through the night.
They are not the Inquisition. They do not chase magic users. They do not seal cantons. They are not part of the political apparatus, except by inheritance.
They are also, broadly, bored. The kaiju do not attack often. The cantons of the outer ring are quiet most nights. A patrol on a wet rainy evening in Wickward is more likely to be sheltering in a guardhouse with hot tea than walking the alleys looking for resistance couriers. The party has used this regularly.
The Garrison in Heron, by contrast — Session 01 — was not lazy. The garrison at the gate stood out in the rain. Whether this is a difference between cantons, a result of standing orders the party doesn't know about, or a warning sign of something else is undetermined.
Structure
- Wall Garrisons. Permanent posts along the three rings. Patrol the wall walks, man the cannons, fight the kaiju when they appear.
- Canton Garrisons. Local. One per canton. Mans the gate, walks the patrols, enforces the curfew.
- Capital Guard. Innermost ring. Different uniform. Politically aligned with the Inquisition more than with the rest of the Garrison.
Notable Encounters
Session 01 — Wickward Gate
The party walked out of Wickward unchallenged. The garrison was sheltering from the rain. The dice were rolling.
Session 01 — Heron Gate
Alert. Patrolling. The party skirted the wall and crossed via Jorath's enlarged form rather than risk the questions.
